 How can I sell my items?

There are two ways that you can sell your pre-loved items; Consignment and Direct Purchase. Consignment involves our team selling your item on your behalf. Direct Purchase, on the other hand, allows you to sell your item upfront. 

Contact us at support@ottersvest.com with photos and details of your items (including fabrication, size, approximate age and condition) to start your selling journey.

Do I get to decide whether I my pieces are taken on by Consignment or Direct Purchase?

When evaluating your pieces, we will advise the list price as well as your options for selling. As there is additional risk for Otter's Vest involved with Direct Purchase, we only offer Direct Purchase for items that are in high demand. If your pieces are eligible for both options, you will get to decide which option you would like to sell for.

What types of items do you accept?

We accept clothing, shoes and accessories from mid to high luxury brands. Items must be made mostly using natural fabrics such as cotton, wool (including cashmere, mohair and alpaca), linen, silk and leather.

We only sell genuine designer products and take care to ensure authenticity. In the case that you cannot provide a receipt or tags for your piece, our team will take time to determine whether or not the piece is authentic. This process can take up to 5 business days and for high end luxury goods (such as Chanel, Gucci, Hermes etc) may involve, at the seller's cost, authentication via a reputable third-party service. 

How long will my items be on sale for?

Your items will be listed for 6 weeks. If your item doesn't sell by the end of the month, we can discuss options such as reducing the list price or removing the item. 

We do not offer Direct Purchase for items that will be listed over $2,000. These items will only be taken on by consignment, however they may be listed for an extended period of up to 3 months.

What will I earn?

Our Consignment commission structure is tiered, based on the agreed sale price of the piece.

  • 50% for pieces sold under $500
  • 60% for pieces sold between $501 and $1,499
  • 70% for pieces sold between $1,500 and $2,999
  • 80% for pieces sold over $3,000

Our Direct Purchase commission structure is different as there is more risk taken on when buying pieces as owned inventory.

  • 30% for pieces sold under $500
  • 40% for pieces sold between $501 and $1,499
  • 50% for pieces sold between $1,500 and $2,000

How do you decide on an item's price?

The list price for each piece is based on a number of factors including RRP, condition and demand. We are transparent with our customers about the RRP and condition of every piece so that they can feel confident that they are paying a fair price for their pre-loved piece. Our team will walk you through the process once you share the details of your piece.
